Jerome Jooste

Photographer - Journalist

NW6 4LDLondonUnited Kingdom

I seek to share captured images through the medium of film in much the same way that writers, painters, poets, and musicians seek to evoke feelings and reactions through their respective media.

My commercial images depict my love of composition that draws the eye to the interplay of light, colour and shadow. In another aspect of my work my documentary images capture the essence of human struggle and joy while emphasising texture and contrast. Born in South Africa, I am a well-motivated graduate in photography and journalism. My fine art images explore the boundaries of light and surrealism.

After working as a journalist for four years I went on to study photography to gain deeper understanding of the medium. I graduated cum laude from the National College of Photography and went on to search for and find that unforgettable defining moment. It was as a freelance photographer that I learnt to watch and wait on life.

I have worked across several national and community publications as well as special & corporate events. I am also a well-motivated Graduate in Journalism and Photography who not only has experience dealing with high profile personalities but has the technical grounding in photography. I have strong communication, creative, presentation and interpersonal skills. I am able to produce high quality images under pressure and am highly reliable in the quality of work I produce. I am self-motivated and resourceful who is used to a heavy workload, often working on a number of assignments and meeting tight deadlines.

I have unique perspective and a great eye for detail as well as I my own equipment. I am a 26-year-old South African photographer who hard working and passionate about photography. Please see my website below for examples of my work. www.jeromejooste.com.

I believe a great photograph records what is written on the human face, the beauty of the earth and skies that man has inherited, and the wealth and confusion man has created. Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communication, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution.

Of course, there will always be those who look only at technique, who ask "how," while others of a more curious nature will ask "why." Personally, I have always preferred inspiration to information.” Every time someone tells me how sharp my photos are, I assume that it isn't a very interesting photograph. If it were, they would have more to say. My technique is not bound my textbook training alone. I am influenced by fine art painters and my goal is to create lasting dramatic images that people will remember even when I am no longer here.”
