Foundation Secretary, The Sheffield Institute Foundation for Motor Neurone Disea
1 contactThe Foundation is raising money to create the first Institute in Europe dedicated to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) also called ALS or La maladie de Charcot. This fatal and devastating condition which affects the function of the muscles throughout the body, has not been properly funded until now because the low numbers of people affected by it doesnt attract the interest of the pharmaceutical companies. There is no cure, no treatment and no hope for the patients who suffer progressive degeneration of their body.
The group of researchers in Sheffield is lead by one of the top international scientist, Professor Pamela Shaw. In order to develop around her an International Centre of excellence there is an urgent need to bring together all the researchers under one roof and provide them with adequate laboratory space.
The Foundation's aim is to raise £5 million in the next two years to start the building and endow 20 new posts for International scientists. This is the only way this dreadful condition will be beaten.
