Francesco Formica
Telecom engineer
I am a Telecom Engineer with a Master's degree in Telecommunication engineering from Polytechnic University of Milan, grown up with various professional and academical experiences in Italy, France and UK.
I studied Telecommunications Engineering at Polytechnic University of Bari first (Bachelor's degree) and then at Polytechnic University of Milan (Master's degree).
My industrial placement in the final year of my master's degree was held in France, Marseille where I developed an algorithm for optical data processing. My tasks were to modify the experimental hardware setup of the microscope, dealing with optical devices, and write code in FORTRAN and Matlab, testing the algorithms on remote based servers with a Linux shell.
After my graduation I had an important experience at Alcatel-Lucent in Milan, where I worked as a Radio design engineer. I was involved in the analysis, testing and simulation of new features to be deployed on the microwave networks, developing tools in Visual Basic 2010 and massively using Excel and Power Point for data analysis and presentation. I carried out microwave links design and optimization with the software Pathloss 4.0, which I was trained about in an internal Alcatel-Lucent training week.
Throughout all my exams projects at university and the working experiences, I have acquired technical skills such as Microsoft Office suit (including Access), C, C++, Java, Fortran, Matlab and Visual Basic programming languages, Linux and Windows OS and troubleshooting and networking skills.
I am a proactive, extremely determined, self motivated and reliable individual. My different experiences enrich me both professionally and personally, making me at ease working in multicultural teams as well as being able to establish good personal relationships. As a result I am a very good team-player and last but not least, I can describe myself as a really hard-working and adaptable person, with strong analysis skills and able to quickly acquire and learn new approaches and tools.
I am interested in a career in the IT-Telecom sector and my ideal role in 5 years would definitely be working as a pre-sales engineer.

2010 - 2010WTPU Wireless Transmission Product Unit, Product Strategy.
Junior advanced radio design engineer.
Main tasks:
• development of Visual Basic based software and tools;
• carrying out analysis, testing and simulation of new features and technologies to be deployed in microwave radio networks.
WTPU Wireless Transmission Product Unit, Advanced Tendering and Network Design.
Main tasks:
• microwave radio links dimensioning;
• network design and optimization for pre-sales;
• Pathloss 4.0 internal training attended.
2008 - 2009I have been involved in a project whose objective is to develop a new type of higher resolution optical microscope. My principal tasks (both experimental and theoretical) were to modify the set-up configuration (optical devices) in order to perform the data acquisition in the image plane of the lens and to carry out the processing steps with the aim of obtaining the permittivity map of the sample. I worked in a team of researchers, PhDs and professors.
I developed an algorithm for optical data processing, writing and manipulating code in FORTRAN and Matlab, testing the algorithms and performing the simulations on remote based servers with a Linux shell.
