Clive Barwell
Head of Later Life Services, Towergate Financial
I was born in 1952 and joined the Lloyds Bank Group in 1971 at their Executor & Trustee Branch in Southampton.
Through a series of “corporate metamorphoses” the Executor & Trustee Department of the Bank became their Private Banking operation. In 1988 I came to Leeds as Manager of the Leeds Branch of Lloyds Private Banking, which offered asset management and holistic independent financial planning advice to the Bank’s wealthier Customers in Yorkshire. At the time, I was the youngest Branch Manager in the Private Bank.
In 1995 I accepted redundancy from the Bank in lieu of an unwelcome move back south and became an Independent Financial Adviser.
At the time of leaving the Bank, through qualifications gained, training received and experience, I was a member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP) and a member of the Securities & Investment Institute. I am now Chairman of the Yorkshire Branch of STEP and have recently been elected a Fellow of the Securities & Investment Institute.
Since leaving the Bank I have gained experience with a Sheffield IFA, two National IFAs and am now a Director of Towergate Fiancial (North).
My particular areas of specialism are Inheritance Tax and investment planning.
