Carlos del Romero
Trainee Account Executive, Metrica
After my BA studies in journalism –in Spain and Italy– I decided to move abroad, and I found an interesting opportunity in Cesky Rozhlas (Radio Prague), the national radio service of the Czech Republic. I also had the chance to work occasionally as a freelancer for Prague City Council and Skoda Holding.
I stayed in Prague for one year, working as a reporter for Cesky Rozhlas' Spanish radio service, and then I decided to move back to Spain.
After only two months –that I spent doing an internship in a local radio– I got offered a job in Las Provincias TV, one of the regional TV stations owned by Spanish multimedia group Vocento, covering the East of Spain. There I developed the tasks of reporter during three years.
I spent my free time during my first year at Las Provincias TV learning photography in one of Valencia's renowned photography schools, Abad Fotografía.
On my second year at Las Provincias TV, while working fulltime, I decided to broaden my academical background and I studied an MA in International and EU studies, which focused on international politics, economics and law. I obtained a mention in EU Law.
After three years in Spain I decided that it was time to change again, and I moved to the UK. I decided to study an MA in International Journalism at Cardiff University, which is supposed to be one of the most prestigious journalistic academic programmes in the UK. Once I graduated the next move was logical: I transferred to London.
I have five years of work experience in the fields of journalism and communication.
I have developed different tasks related to these fields in different countries such as Spain or Czech Republic. I have also lived in Italy and UK. I'm currently based in London. I am fluent in Spanish, English, Italian and Catalan.
2007 - 2010LAS PROVINCIAS TV was one of the regional TV stations of Spanish multimedia group Vocento. It covered the whole Comunidad Valenciana (Alicante, Castellón and Valencia) and it had an average audience of 5 million viewers, 2,8 million every month and 343,000 every day, according to media survey agencies EGM and SOFRES.
As a reporter at Las Provincias TV I had to write daily features and articles on the news stories of the days for the TV bulletins. In order to do so I had to carry out interviews and cover all kinds of backgrounds. I did not specialise in any field in particular, as I had to cover all different kinds of information, from economy to sports, from hard politics to leisure.
I would travel across the East of Spain chasing the story and, in a few hours, I was requested to have everything ready. It sometimes implied working under pressure.
In several occasions I performed live connections from the spot, covering the major stories of the day.
On the other hand I often cooperated with the regional government –Generalitat Valenciana–, writing and filming special documentaries and advertising projects.
2006 - 2007When I arrived in Prague I joined the Spanish department of Cesky Rozhlas. As the Czech Republic's national radio service, Cesky Rozhlas had a vast staff in different departments depending on the language: Czech, Russian, French, English, German and Spanish.
It broadcasts programmes about the Czech Republic on shortwave, satellite and on the Internet. Cesky Rozhlas' broadcasting first began on August 31, 1936.
I joined the Spanish staff and worked as a reporter, developing and producing information for the Spanish-speaking audience about political, cultural, social and economic landscape of Czech Republic in general, and Prague in particular.
I also had the chance to occasionally cooperate with the Czech tourism national board, dubbing audioguides to be used in famous touristic landmarks in Prague; and also for Volkswagen Group's Skoda Holding, dubbing learning material for their Spanish staff.
