Associate Lecturer and Student Support Tutor, Manchester Metropolitan University
Prior to pursuing an academic career I worked for several years as a computer engineer in public sector primary, secondary and special needs schools providing IT/ICT support and computer maintenance.
In addition to Part Time lecturing I have been employed as a Research Fellow working on two ESF funded research projects:
KAN (Know and Network):Women in IT - a social network knowledge sharing facility for women working in the IT industry in England (Jan-Dec 2007)
and
The Disappearing Women Project:North West ICT - undertaken in the North-West of England this study looked at the issues of why women leave the Information Communications Technology (ICT) sector, vowing never to return (Jan-Dec 2006)
I also worked as a Research Fellow for a period of four months working on the Crime Prevention for Emerging Enterprises (a joint university Urban Regeneration project).
I currently work as Associate Lecturer for two affiliations. 1) Manchester Metropolitan University Business School (MMUBS) in the department of Marketing, Operations and Digital Business where I am a lecturer of various modules in the programme of study: Information Discovery, Analysis and Interpretation, Research Methods, Business Research and Consultancy and Business Research and Professional Skills.
2) Salford University Business School on the Undergraduate BSc Business Information Technology and Postgraduate MSc Managing Information Technology programmes of study.
I hold a BSc (Hons) degree in Information Technology and a PhD in Information Systems.
More broadly my research interests are concerned with social, technical and organisational aspects of information systems; technology innovation and digital age; IS development; call centres; outsourcing; surveillance technologies; knowledge management; professional identity; end users; social networking; web 2.0; ethical issues connected with online interactions and social networking and gender research in IS/IT environments.
I have several academic conference, journal and final project report publications.
