Allan Zhang

*Strong knowledge of energy and mining sector

Allan has demonstrated sound knowledge and expertise on energy and mining industry. As a member of PwC global Energy, Utilities and Mining team, he has involved in several energy (mainly oil & gas deals) and mining merger & acquisition deals, advising MNCs on investment into China and Chinese state owned enterprises investing overseas. He has also participated in a few firm-wide thought leadership pieces on oil & gas and mining. His experience of working as the Senior Strategy and Planning Adviser at Shell China Gas & Power helped him to gain in-depth knowledge of the industry.

*Leader of PwC China’s sustainability issues

Allan is the leader of PwC China Sustainable Business Solutions team. He has done over 40 deals with multinational firms on various projects relating to environmental due diligence, compliance assurance, corporate social responsibilities and climate change (mainly Clean Development Mechanism projects plus a few new programmes on carbon footprint and carbon neutral). He also lectured widely and received interviews from the media on CDM and environmental issues. This work has enabled him to maintain a wide network with China’s energy companies as well as academic institutions and central government agencies.

*In-depth knowledge about China’s regulatory system and strong analytical skills

Allan has worked in China’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (currently the Ministry of Commerce) for over 13 years and has in-depth knowledge about China’s regulatory system and policy-making process. He still keeps close relationship with key central government ministries such as the Ministry of Finance, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Commerce. He has done extensive economic research work at PwC London on Asia and China, particularly on the sectoral impact of China’s accession to the World Trade Organisation. He has also involved in a number of economic analysis projects for PwC and external clients. Now, as the Chief Editor of PwC China’s Editorial Board, he is responsible for reviewing all China related thought leadership papers and publications, using his profound knowledge of the Chinese economy to the full. Allan is also a frequent speaker at and initiator of many internal and external economic functions. He is currently a member of China Association of Trade in Services sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce.

*Rich project management experience and strong self-motivation and team spirit

Allan is an economist by background and has accumulated rich experiences on project management by working for various clients at PwC and Shell. He is of mature character, analytical, self-motivated and has strong team spirit. He has also demonstrated strong inter-personal skills and is good at dealing with difficult situations. His extensive international background (studied in the US, worked in China and the UK, dealt with various UN bodies) has enabled him to work easily in a multi-national and cross-functional environment.
